This Privacy Policy explains what information Statehunt ("we", "us", "our") collects when you use statehunt.in, and how we use it. By using this site, you agree to the practices described here.
Information we collect
We collect different information depending on how you use the site:
- Account information. If you create a Statehunt account, we collect your name, email address and password. Your password is stored securely by our login system and is never visible to us as plain text.
- Comments. If you post a comment on an article, your name and comment text are published on that article. Logged-in comments are linked to your account.
- Saved articles. When you save an article or like a post, that information is stored in your browser and, for likes, a non-identifying reference is stored on our server so each account can like an article once.
- Contact and newsletter forms. If you contact us or sign up for launch notifications, we collect the email address and message you provide.
- Usage data. Like most websites, we automatically collect some technical information — your approximate location (city/state level), browser type, device type and pages visited — through Google Analytics.
How we use your information
- To provide core features — logging in, saving articles, posting comments, and liking stories.
- To respond to messages sent through our contact form.
- To understand how readers use the site, so we can improve it.
- To show relevant advertising through Google AdSense (see "Advertising" below).
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and browser storage for essential functions (keeping you logged in, remembering saved articles) and, where enabled, for analytics and advertising. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though some features of the site may not work correctly without them.
Advertising
Statehunt displays ads through Google AdSense. Google may use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can learn more about how Google uses this data, and opt out of personalised advertising, at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.
Embedded content from other sites
Some pages include embedded content — for example, live videos from YouTube, and timelines from X (Twitter) and Facebook. These embeds are hosted by their respective platforms, which may collect data about your interaction with that content (such as your IP address) according to their own privacy policies. We don't control, and aren't responsible for, how these third parties handle your data.
Your choices
- You can update your name and password at any time from My Account.
- You can remove a saved article at any time from Saved Articles.
- You can delete your account, or ask what data we hold about you, by contacting us (see below).
Children's privacy
Statehunt is a general news service and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent changes. Continued use of the site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
